Phil is a true Southerner educated at Louisburg College and UNC Chapel Hill (Economic History). His love of plants lead him to open Oakmont Landscaping (1984-1995) before establishing Oakmont Nursery in 1987.
He was recently recognized as Grower of the Year by the North Carolina Nursery and Landscape Association, reflecting his passion for growing and developing plants — in particular, gardenias. He holds two gardenia patents for ‘Crown Jewel’ (2009) and ‘Prince Charles’ (2018).
Phil enjoys a respected reputation among his colleagues, volunteering his time and expertise by serving on local and statewide agriculture advisory boards, including the Board of Advisors of the JC Raulston Arboretum at NC State University in Raleigh.
Opened in 1987 by Phil Dark, Oakmont Nursery is a small nursery located in Siler City, NC, providing trees and shrubs to the retail and wholesale trade, and new cultivars to a national and global market.
The nursery is conveniently located in the center of the state on US Highway 64, between Siler City and Pittsboro. Find Oakmont Nursery here on Facebook.
